was browsing around forums and noticed that there wasnt one for spina bifida. I have spina bifida i wont pertend i know all there is about it actually i hope to fine someone that may help me with what i dont know about it. the basic meaning of Spina bifida is spine split or devided. Its a birth defect of the spine and the spinal cord resultion in paralization. depending on the location of the opening or the buldge in the spine at bith depends on how much damage and paralisis will occur. Also common with spina bifida is hydrocephalus. This is a build up of spinal fluid on the brain correct by the placement of the shunt. A shunt is a tube with a pump as such place in the brain and threaded through to the tummy where the fluid is then release where it can cause no harm such as sweeling as it does when on the brain. There are many corrective surgeries that a child must have and adaptive equipoment to help deal with the issues associated with spina bifida as too there is a lack of bowel and bladder control which needs to be dealt with on a daily basis. Spina bifida is not curable but however is very manageable. Recent however there had been good sign that removing the sac from the spine before bith with a surgery done on the mother while baby is still in utero can minimize ot illiminate the effects of this disability.Many as in my case have secondary disabilities such as learning difficulties from the spina bifida as well as emotional issues such as depression. I hope that this may be of somehelp for someone or maybe will find someone that knows more to add incase i have forgotten anything.
