How do you know you have high blood pressure??

I went for my yearly physical and the nurse took it and she thought it was high so she had my doc take it and it was. I think the normal is 140/80. Anything over that is too high. There are really no signs I don't think. Once you have it you are supposed to be on meds the rest of your life but for 2 yrs mine was normal so I took myself off of the meds but now im back on them. If it is extremely high you can have bad headaches. I will look up an article on the symptons and post it.
